Written Reflection
*How do you feel you have grown in skill throughout this trimester? My photography skills have improved tremendously throughout the trimester, I had never taken a photography class up until my final tri freshman year. I have learned a lot from this class and whenever I am taking pictures from now on I will consider the shooting techniques that I learned this trimester to try to improve all of my photos.
Think about what it was like taking pictures at the beginning and compare that to how you shoot now. Has anything changed? If so, what? If not, why not? A lot has changed in my shooting from the beginning of the trimester to now. I feel that my photos have improved so much over the course of this class. One thing that has changed is my shooting techniques. I picked up on a lot of different techniques this trimester and I believe that my photos have improved tremendously, whether it be using my knowledge of aperture and depth of field to shoot a cool bokeh effect, or the various angles that I have taken pictures changing the whole perspective of the photo and improving the overall quality of the photograph.
*Do you notice yourself leaning towards a certain point of view? A certain editing style? A certain subject matter? Explain, and explain how your photos demonstrate this. When shooting I notice that a lot of my photos follow the composition guideline of simplicity. For many of my shots I get in really close to the subject to take my pictures, it is rare for me to take a long shot of something, if it is possible I will get as close to the subject as I can and still make sure it looks good. When editing I like to use a lot of black and white in my photos. I think that black and white really improves a lot of my images and makes them have a different feeling. Pictures that show this would be both of the tree shots in my portfolio, the shot of my baseball, my dog, and Sam skiing.
*Explain why you chose these particular photos. Why do you feel they are your best work? What is it about these images that make them worthy of the title "THE BEST OF THE BEST"? Perhaps it would help to talk about some individually as well as the whole group. Compare and contrast your best from your good. These pictures are definitely my best work. I have worked on a lot of these photos all trimester, and I believe that this is my best work. These photos deserve the title of being the best because they all have something unique and special to them, on most of them I spent huge chunks of time editing them and making them perfect for this final exam, and I also spent a huge amount of time taking these shots and having to redo them over and over again until I got the result I wanted. The rest of the photos I took this year definitely did not have the effort put into them that I put into these pictures. For example some of the best photos I took all year were my pictures with the bokeh effects. They were very challenging to take and set up, because I had to make sure the aperture was set perfectly and the exposure was correct. It took a long time but I finally got the result I wanted and they turned out amazing.
*Is there any project that stands out for you, as either your favorite or your least favorite? Why? Are there any images in your album from these lessons? My least favorite project of the year was definitely the point of view assignment. I really did not enjoy shooting for this assignment and my pictures didn't even turn out that good. One reason I didn't like it was because it was so wide open I didn't know what I wanted to shoot, so I took pictures of things around my house from different angles, but they didn't turn out how I wanted them to be. The only picture from my point of view assignment was the candle picture. This was my best picture from my point of view and about the only picture I liked from this assignment.
*If you had the trimester to do all over again, what would you do differently? (Consider this advice to the next class) The only thing that I would do differently in this class would be to take more pictures throughout the course of the shooting assignment. I always took all my photos the night before and sometimes it was very stressful and hard to get all 12 photos finished on time. Other than that I would do everything the same because I still got 100% on all my shooting assignments except for the point of view where I got an A-.
